01.Disna Organic Farm and Plant Nursery
25 acre organic / non organic farm owned by a retired Agricultural Instructor of the Government. Situated in the extreme dry zone in Kurunegala District. Owner also uses the farm as a training center.
Basically a coconut cultivation with a mixture of fruit and vegetable cultivations coupled with animal husbandry with dairy cows, goats and poultry. A bio gas unit has been set up to power the farm and the house of the owner. Can provide accommodation for at least five persons at once.
02.G.M Gunarathna Banda
4 ¼ acres of a farm in the extreme dry zone. A good example for dry zone conservation ecological agriculture. A mixture of coconut, fruit and vegetables. 1 ½ acres of paddy land which cultivated using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) technique. Alternative power generation using bio gas from cow dung.
Water and soil conservation methods are in use to overcome the challenges of water shortage. Close to Yapahuwa Historical city. Can use the train as convinient transportation and traveling method.
03.Jayathilka Home garden, Palugaswewa
An organic home garden with ¼ acres of land. Based on dairy farming and livestock rearing (cows and goats) . Uses a bio gas as alternative power generation. Most of the household power requirements are fulfilled through this bio gas. Rain water harvesting and water, soil conservation methods are in use. An accomodate 2 persons at once.
04.Chandrasiri Ganepola, Maho
1 acre of paddy cultivation and 2 ½ of vegetable and fruit cultivation. Uses peanut as main cultivation in dry season. Using rain water harvesting techniques to overcome the challenges of the draught. Situated in close by to a ancient irrigation system.
05.Fruit Farm in Deraniyagala
30 acres of fruit farm in the wet zone of Sri Lanka. Consists of number of tropical fruit cultivations.
06. Kegalle Organic Farm
03 acre organic/inorganic farms in development with eco-housing facility for 08 persons operating 07 days a week. Situated in the Sabaragamuwa Province lining the central hills. Farming in rice, vegetables & animal husbandry (cows and poultry) with Fresh water fish pond using natural irrigation. Bio dynamic methods used for fertility and pest management.
07-.RATHNAYAKE Farm
The model farm named after its owner who is currently serving as an agricultural instructor, is a farm grown under natural farming principles over a period of 20 years. An ideal spot to view experimentation in natural soil & water conservation methods, production of bio dynamic fertilizer and the study of natural eco systems all spread out on 2 ½ acres of land. A model of different family home garden plots that are organized to inter-connect and share resources geared for 'food sovereignty' can be seen in the area. The farm is in the initial stages of transformation from 'carbonic agriculture' to 'bio dynamic agriculture'. The need and the possibility exist for engagement in developing neighboring land plots using ways and means of natural farming. Accommodation for 06 persons. The food is vegetarian. Use of alcohol and smoking inside the farm is not welcome.
08. KANDEGEDERA Farm
An example of a true Sri Lankan effort in transforming degraded land into fertile and ably cultivated land using ecological agricultural means. An area of approximately 01 acre now developed as model agro-forestry. Cultivation of carbonic tea, flowers, vegetables & fruits. A bio gas unit in operation. Conducts training programs on carbonic home gardening while functioning as a centre for 'knowledge exchange'. Accommodation available for 03 persons. Attendance to day to day activities of the farm is most welcome.
09- PANNALA Farm
Committed to agriculture with animal husbandry since completing secondary education. After 05 years in operation, the farm now manage 06 cows. The current efforts are concentrated on developing the 'family farm' towards attaining self sufficiency in food. Knowledge and assistance in ecological farming practices required. Up to 04 persons can be accommodated in a friendly 'family farming' atmosphere.
10- CHAMINDA Farm
25 perches of land cultivated through carbonic methods. Practice of the traditional methods of food production. Facility to accommodate 04 persons. Employs bio dynamics, perm-culture, IPM in carbonic agriculture. Books and literature on carbonic agriculture, films/documentaries are available for use.
11-GAMAGE Farm
2 ½ acre farm belonging to field officer of carbonic agriculture in service for the past o8 years. Believes in the regenerative capacities of nature adhering to the principals of eco agriculture. The cultivations are done without damaging the prevalent ecology of natural habitat.
12-DDC Community Farm
Devasarana Development Centre (DDC) is a well known NGO working in different fields of activities aimed at social transformation. During the past 10 years DDC has been an exchange port for the sharing of knowledge and experience for social activists and volunteers both home and abroad. Now we work in the development of communities in 40 different villages. Undoubtedly, the most suitable place for studies in community and alternative development systems.
It is a sprawling 14 acres of mostly coconut, banana, vegetable and fruit cultivations. The farm here is the collective effort of the members of the village communities and staff. It holds facility for accommodating 50 persons, lecture halls & auditorium, Library and communication.
